Everything you need to know to get started using Builder Center today.
You’ve seen “cloud experience preferred” in every job posting you’ve looked at. You’ve watched classmates land internships because they had a project to demo, not just a GPA to cite. The skills gap is real. The World Economic Forum says 39% of core job skills will shift by 2030 — but the fix isn’t another textbook. It’s building something.
AWS Builder Center is a free community where you learn cloud and AI skills, build real projects, and connect with builders around the world, all in one place. It works on any device, nearly 2 million builders already use it each month, and you don’t need an AWS account or a credit card. Just an email address and some curiosity.

What you get (Yes, actually free)
🎓 Learn: Build Career-Ready Skills
Content is structured from Level 100 (just getting started) all the way to Level 400 (deep technical builds), so no matter where you are right now, there’s a clear next step.
You can explore curated learning Topics organized by what you want to build, read and write Articles that share real-world techniques from the community, and access everything in 16 supported languages.
Check out a few recent articles written by community members to start learning:
A builder shares the simple approach that actually worked after weeks of research paralysis. No PhD required.
Plain-language explanations of AI and GenAI concepts, written by someone who was learning them for the first time.
A practical guide covering Free Tier tips, a layered learning path, five portfolio projects, and how to avoid common beginner mistakes.
Learning by yourself gets old fast. Spaces in AWS Builder Center are member-created community groups where students and professionals around the world can share knowledge, discuss topics of interest to them, collaborate on projects, and grow their skills together.
There’s an active Student Builder community where people are already sharing projects, hosting events, and helping each other figure things out.
You can also follow other builders whose work you find interesting, grow your professional network before you graduate, and find your local Student Builder Group if you want to connect in person. It’s less like a forum and more like a study group where you can discuss, learn, and grow.
🛠️ Build: Create Things That Matter
Reading about cloud computing only takes you so far. At some point you need to get your hands on real tools.
AWS Workshops give you hands-on labs with free AWS environments where you can experiment, break things, and learn by doing. No credit card, no risk, and no charges if something goes sideways. The Toolbox feature has open source projects, SDKs, and scaffolding to get a project up and running quickly. And the Capabilities explorer lets you compare AWS services side-by-side so you can make informed choices about what to use for your own builds.
Build a portfolio, not just a résumé
Here’s what makes Builder Center different from another online course: everything you do here is visible.
When you create your Builder ID, you get a public profile at builder.aws.com/community/@youralias. Don’t forget to complete your profile and earn your very first badge. Your profile will increase your visibility on the site and enable connections to other community members. The projects you build, articles you publish, and contributions you make all live there. That’s a URL you can put on your LinkedIn, drop into a job application, or pull up in an interview.
Most students graduate with a transcript. The ones who stand out graduate with a body of work that proves what they can do. This is where you build that proof.
Earn badges as you go
As you use Builder Center, you earn digital badges that show up on your public profile. Some you can pick up in your first week — completing your profile, leaving your first comment, or publishing your first article. Others reward consistency (sign-in streaks, comment streaks) or community impact (getting replies on your comments, likes on your articles, upvotes on your Wishlist ideas).
Think of them as a lightweight way to track your own progress and show other builders that you’re actively engaged here.
Your voice shapes AWS
This isn’t a one-way content library where you consume and leave. When you submit feature requests via the Wishlist feature, upvote ideas, or leave feedback, AWS product teams read it and respond. We’re looking for feedback from all our community members, including you! Your perspective as a builder can influence tools used by millions of developers around the world.
