Best practices for hosting a virtual expo booth

Disrupt is less than a month away, and TechCrunch is gearing up for five days of non-stop networking and programming.

As a sponsor, one of the most efficient ways to take full advantage of the show is to host a virtual expo booth, offers a suite of sophisticated, interactive tools like you’ve never used before at a virtual event.

TechCrunch recently spoke with Hopin founder, Johnny Boufarhat about how to successfully run a virtual expo booth (Hopin is powering the Disrupt venue). Here are his top three tips for optimizing attendance, engagement, and interaction.

Make visitors feel special

As the sponsor, you’ll be notified when someone visits your expo booth. Try to acknowledge them by name, welcoming them to a memorable experience. Individualizing the user experience will foster a more intimate and engaged audience.

Offer an incentivize

People love visiting expo booths at conferences because there’s often something they can access that is unique and exclusive. Promoting things like discounts, freebies, live demos, or even t-shirt swag will incentivize attendees to connect with what will feel like an elite experience.

Have great (and organized) content

Develop a content schedule so attendees know what will be happening and when. Just like an in-person booth, you can host demos, interviews, promotions and product showcases. And hosting these during a specific time every day will create a critical mass. Also, stay live as much as possible instead of relying on pre-recorded content to keep people engaged.
