Andrew Dzurak

Founder and CEO, Diraq

Andrew Dzurak is the founder and CEO of Diraq, a company pioneering the use of silicon-based quantum computing chips. After nearly two decades of frontline research in quantum engineering, he developed a solution to one of quantum computing’s biggest challenges: making the technology scalable by building it on the same silicon chips the world already manufactures in abundance for laptops, cell phones, and other devices. Andrew led the team that invented the first CMOS-native silicon spin qubits in 2014 and, in 2015, the first two-qubit logic gate in silicon. He’s published more than 200 research papers, including over 40 in Nature and Science journals, and generated more than 60 patents across 14 families. He was named last year to UNESCO’s inaugural “Quantum 100” list. Andrew has been a Professor at the University of New South Wales for over two decades. Today, Diraq is developing silicon-based quantum processors using standard CMOS foundries, creating a pathway to millions of qubits on a single chip at a target cost of less than $1 per qubit. The company is currently in Stage B of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative and has raised more than $100 million in funding to date.
